On Sunday, June 25th, the Cancer Research Wales Crickhowell Committee held an afternoon tea party at the local Dragon Hotel to help raise funds for the charity.
Our trustee Simon Williams has shared his thoughts on why the event was such a great success.
The day couldn’t have started better. On arrival, the supporting husbands were greeting party goers with their excellent punch loaded with summer fruit, which certainly got the party going!
Everyone had dressed beautifully for the occasion and the rain showers did not dampen spirits.
Hazel with her team had organised a superb event with excellent entertainment including a harpist, who had received treatment for cancer herself, and a young soloist singer who did and incredible job without any accompanying music.
Just like the entertainment, we were treated to some wonderful food too. There were 100 or so guests, sat at tables beautifully presented with fine china and cakes the like of which you would only expect to see on The Great British Bake Off – eat your heart out Mary Berry!
We then moved on to strawberries and cream – and I really felt like I should have been sitting on the sidelines at Wimbledon!
There was even a raffle and local craft stalls to enjoy too. All in all, it was a brilliant afternoon and thanks to all the excellent work from the Crickhowell team and the amazing hospitality of the Dragon Hotel.
Cancer Research Wales are extremely grateful to all of our community committees, as they help to make our essential work possible. Because of the efforts of the Crickhowell Committee and groups like them, we can fund research which aims to prevent cancer, improve treatments and bring us that one step closer to a cure.
If you would like to help continue our vital work and raise funds in your area please get in touch, we are here to offer ideas and support to get you started.
