Volunteering at Cancer Research Wales!

Alongside studying a degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University I have recently joined the friendly team here at Cancer Research Wales as a volunteer. The charity are always busy organising a huge variety of fundraising events, some of which I have fortunately already had the opportunity to get involved in!

On Friday 7th December I attended the Cancer Research Wales Snow Ball at Glamorgan Cricket Stadium. As you may already know, the annual Christmas ball is a glamorous, yet fun black-tie event where guests enjoy a drink reception on arrival followed by a delicious three course meal. The evening was hosted by TV presenter Ruth Wignall. Whilst being there it was clear to me that this really was the best opportunity for local businesses or friends to enjoy the festive season, whilst raising essential funds for an important cause.

I had a lovely evening at the ball, and it was great to see so many people willing to raise funds in the raffle and also the auction where amazing trips were available, such as the chance to see the Northern Lights and many more!

With Christmas fast approaching I’m really looking forward to putting on my favourite Christmas jumper and volunteering in my first Gift Wrap, where we will be wrapping presents in return for a donation of choice at Queen’s Arcade Shopping Centre, The Christmas Markets and Cwmbran Shopping Centre.

I’m excited to be a part of this event, as funds raised will go directly into funding some of the world’s leading cancer research which is happening here in Wales.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for Cancer Research Wales so far and am looking forward to continuing to do so!
