We need people like you!
We’re very fortunate to have the wonderful support of our fundraising groups and committees.
These groups are our community heroes and come in all shapes and sizes. They are groups of family or friends who organise events throughout the year such as balls, dinners, coffee mornings, concerts etc., raising huge sums of money and volunteering their precious time.
We are truly grateful for these heroes and for their incredible efforts and consider them part of our Cancer Research Wales family.
Why be a Community Hero?
Our groups and committees support us for a variety of reasons. For some, they have had a very personal experience with cancer in their family or friendship groups and want to support a charity that funds world-class research right here in Wales. For others, it’s an opportunity to give something back to the community in which they live and make a real difference to peoples’ lives. Isobel Cooper of the Brecon and Sennybridge Committee explains the impact cancer and the charity have had on her life:
“My husband died of cancer 13 years ago, so I have had a very personal experience with cancer.
I met a lady who was on the Cancer Research Wales Brecon & Sennybridge Committee and I decided to join as it would be a way of repaying all the help I’d had for my husband, Peter. I wanted to support a local charity whose donations were spent right here in Wales.
It’s enjoyable being part of the committee as it’s surprising how much you can learn from those who have supported the charity for many years. I would encourage others to join as we could always do with fresh ideas.”
