We are very saddened to announce the passing of one of longstanding Volunteers, Mrs Eira Jones.
Eira joined the Sennybridge & Brecon Cancer Research Wales Volunteer Committee in 2012 and was very quickly elected as Chairman of the Volunteer Committee. Having lost her husband from cancer early in her marriage, she was passionate about our cause and worked tirelessly to raise funds in support of Cancer Research Wales.
Under her chairmanship, the committee raised over £142,000 in support of funding vital research and, in turn, helping to create better outcomes for cancer patients in Wales.
Member of the Sennybridge & Brecon Committee, stated:
“Eira, with her unique sense of humour, was a loyal friend, colleague and, with her immense leadership qualities, was an inspiration to us all.
Before she retired, she was Head of English at Brecon High School, where she developed her great ability to communicate with all ages. She was extremely generous, kind, and thoughtful; she was a faithful friend and will be greatly missed by us all.”
Honouring Eira’s character, hard work and valuable contribution to the work of the charity, Cancer Research Wales, Chief Executive, Ann Tate, commented:
“Eira was an inspirational Chair of the Brecon and Sennybridge Committee. It is rare nowadays to find a fundraising committee with such a large membership and who arrange such a wide range of fundraising activities. This was testament to Eira’s unique personality and leadership, as she created an environment where all the events were fun and enjoyable as well as raising much needed funds for Cancer Research Wales.”
On behalf of all the staff, Trustees and volunteers, Cancer Research Wales would like to send its deepest condolences and sympathies to Eira’s family and friends. Eira will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with her over many years.
